College for All? Youth Lead the Way
Published: Rethinking Schools. (2009)
This article discusses the Youth Leadership Practicum (the seed for the Peer-to-Peer Program later) designed to help first-generation college-bound students navigate the often overwhelming college application process. The program emphasizes inquiry-driven learning, allowing students to explore campuses, understand the application, and learn about financial aid through their own questions and experiences. High school participants collaborate with first-generation college students, creating a youth-to-youth resource guide to empower their peers facing similar challenges. The program highlights the need for schools to adopt more student-centered approaches and dedicate resources to support these students in realizing their college aspirations.
